Sports and recreationpark Zwolle

City of Zwolle (The Netherlands)

Communication goal:
The city of Zwolle is developing a new sports and recreation park in a new housing estate: Stadshagen. The municipality aims at involving the population in decision making and development of the park. From the start Wennekes Multimedia has been consulted in concept and further development. This resulted in a communication plan and an audio-visual configuration with polling booth.

Result:
By means of a number of sessions with experts on the matter, three proposals have been worked out and were presented to the inhabitants of Zwolle in June, 2003. Every inhabitant had the possibility to 'go through' the three proposals and give a preferential vote afterwards. These votes were entered on an electronic polling booth and stored in a databank. The same opportunity was offered on the internet. Many people of the new housing estate and the rest of the city made use of this new way of participation and voted. The results served as an advice for the policy makers.
